I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Columbia College (1990), an Interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Natural Sciences from the University of South Carolina (2000), and a Doctorate in Education in Teacher Leadership from Walden University (2012). My first two years of teaching were in Math and Health at Ridge Spring-Monetta Middle School in Aiken County, then four years at DJJ, where I taught math, science, and a bit of Spanish and was their first Teacher of the Year. I left DJJ to teach 8th grade Science in Richland Two at Dent Middle for eight years, and the last thirteen years at E.L. Wright. As I began to see more of the world’s problems, I also saw how many adults were blind to the solutions. Children are our future and our only hope to fix the problems in this world. I chose middle school because adolescence is such a tough period in a person’s life. My son, Adrian, is grown and lives in Bluffton with his fiance, so there is just me and my latest rescue dog, Sweet Pea, at home. I love to read, cook and garden in my spare time. I am very excited about this school year with our new leadership and know that our students have a fantastic faculty ready to lead them to success if they are willing to do their part!
